Disposing of pool and garage chemicals

EPA treats leftover products that can catch fire, react, explode, or are corrosive or toxic as household hazardous waste (HHW). [1]

Do

Check your local environmental, health or solid waste agency for HHW collection sites or collection days. [1]

Keep products in original containers with labels; call your hazardous materials official or fire department about corroding containers. [1]

For deteriorating or unlabeled pool chemicals, contact the manufacturer or your local or state hazardous materials group. [2]

Don't

Don't pour HHW down drains, on the ground or into storm sewers, and never mix leftovers; they might react, ignite or explode. [1]

Even empty HHW containers can hold hazardous residue. [1]
